Scatec Solar is building 7.2 MWp on industrial warehouse roofs in Italy

Oslo/ Regensburg, July 27th 2010

Scatec Solar, the global turn-key supplier of solar PV (photo voltaic) solutions, has signed a € 20 million agreement with the Solar Life Energy investment group to build a total of 7.2 MW solar PV systems on ten industrial warehouse roofs in the area of Milano, Italy.
- We are very pleased to have been awarded the contract to fit solar PV systems onto the warehouse roofs in Italy, Raymond Carlsen CEO of Scatec Solar, said. - Large commercial roof tops will be increasingly important to the PV industry as areas for ground mounted parks will become scarce, and the agreement with Solar Life Energy confirms that our company is competitive also in the roof top segment, he said.
The warehouses covered by the agreement are all located in the Milano area where leading international logistics companies have their Italian hubs and where solar irradiation is excellent. A total of ten large roofs will get PV systems fitted, and the expected annual energy production of 8.5 million kWh will be fed into the grid system providing energy for about 4,200 citizens and comparable CO2 savings (0.6 kg / kWh) of five million kg per year.
Special coupled roof mounting system developed
The warehouse roofs represent a special challenge as they have a coupled shape. This has inspired the Scatec Solar engineers to develop a custom made, cost competitive mounting system enabling the installation of PV systems on these kinds of roofs.
- This special designed mounting system has great potential as it increase the number of roofs suitable for solar installations, said Raymond Carlsen. – For Scatec Solar we see this as competitive advantage in our pursuit to become a world leader on solar PV roof top systems, he said.
Scatec Solar will have full EPC responsibilities for the project, which will be completed this year, and the company will also be in charge of the operation and maintenance services for the completed systems.
